When a JurisLit subscription reaches the end of its billing period, each product handles the transition a little differently. This article explains the timeout behavior for JurisTrial (the iPad-first trial-presentation app) and JurisPrep (the cloud sync and cross-firm collaboration gateway), so you always know what to expect as a renewal date approaches.
Subscription timeout periods overview

The JurisLit grace model at a glance

All Island Legal Technologies products share a uniform, three-stage approach to subscription expiry. The goal is simple: you should never lose access to your work without warning.
StageWhat happens
ActiveFull access to every feature for the duration of your subscription.
Grace windowAfter expiry, access continues for a short grace period. A renew banner appears to remind you to update your subscription.
Glass breakIf the grace window lapses, a one-day offline “glass break” option keeps you working long enough to finish a session or reach renewal.
Because JurisTrial and JurisPrep play different roles in the suite, the practical effect of a timeout differs between them. The sections below cover each product individually.

Subscription Timeout Period for JurisTrial

JurisTrial is built to be offline-resilient for the courtroom, so its timeout handling is designed to never interrupt you mid-presentation.
1

Stay active through your billing period

While your subscription is active, JurisTrial runs fully offline on your iPad with no connectivity requirement. Trial exhibits and presentations remain available regardless of network status.
2

Enter the grace window after expiry

When your subscription lapses, JurisTrial enters its grace window. A renew banner appears in the app so you can update your subscription without losing access to your loaded cases.
3

Use the glass-break option if needed

If the grace window passes before renewal, the one-day offline glass-break option lets you keep presenting so that an active trial day is never cut short.

Subscription Timeout Period for JurisPrep

JurisPrep is the AWS-hosted cloud sync layer that powers cross-device and cross-firm collaboration across the JurisLit suite. Because it coordinates shared access, its timeout behavior focuses on keeping collaboration and sync available while you renew.
1

Active sync and collaboration

With an active subscription, JurisPrep keeps your devices and collaborating firms in sync, serving as the gateway for shared case access.
2

Grace window with renew banner

After expiry, JurisPrep continues to operate through its grace window and surfaces a renew banner so collaboration is not interrupted while you update billing.
3

Wind-down at the end of grace

Once the grace window closes, cloud sync features pause until the subscription is renewed. Local desktop products such as JurisDiscovery and JurisReview continue to work according to their own access rules.
Because JurisPrep is the collaboration gateway for the suite, allowing it to fully time out can pause cross-firm sharing for everyone connected to a shared case. Renew before the grace window ends to keep collaborators online.
