Overview
Preparing a synchronized deposition involves four stages: create a transcript file, convert your video to MP4, move the transcript data into JurisTrial, and synchronize the text to the video.
Synchronized transcripts are produced by your court reporter or videographer in a timestamped format. If you are unsure which deliverables you have, ask them for a transcript file with embedded timecodes alongside the deposition video.
Before you begin
Make sure you have both of the following on hand:| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Transcript file | A timestamped transcript produced by your court reporter (commonly an ASCII or timecoded text export). |
| Deposition video | The recorded testimony, ideally already in or convertible to MP4 format. |
Steps
Create a transcript file
Start with the timestamped transcript provided by your court reporter or videographer. This file holds the testimony text along with the timecodes that allow each line to be matched to the video.

Convert the video file into MP4 format
JurisTrial plays synchronized depositions from MP4 video. If your deposition was delivered in another format, convert it to MP4 before importing so the transcript and video align cleanly.

Move transcript data into the JurisTrial application
Transfer the prepared transcript and MP4 video into JurisTrial. Depositions sync to your iPad through JurisPrep, the cloud layer that moves case data across devices and firms.

Sync transcript data
With both the transcript and video in JurisTrial, run the synchronization so each line of testimony is tied to its timecode in the video. Once complete, selecting any passage jumps the video to that exact moment.

JurisTrial is offline-resilient, so synchronized depositions remain available for playback in the courtroom even without a network connection—just be sure to sync your case while you still have connectivity.
